Day 31 - Indoor Recess

Don't worry y'all, I'm not dead, I just wish I was.

It's been pretty brutal out here weather-wise, and it has been really hard on morale. The weather has been bad enough that we're on day four of not being allowed to go outside at all, and that has been making everyone very grumpy. This ship isn't big enough for all of us to be in here. Day one felt like rainy day recess in school where we all hang out and enjoy some novelty. But that wore off fast.

The deck hands practiced knot tying. I'm nosey so I tagged along and they kindly included me in their lesson. It was nice of them, but didn't learn much because it's all just macrame, and I could run plant hangers around these guys for DAYS. Let's learn some real knot tying and make friendship bracelets.

I've also been gobbling seasickness pills and ginger everything, but HOLE-Y HELL I have never felt worse in my life. That's part of why this post is also coming in late, it's been written in small increments over many days. I've been avoiding screens at all cost. Since we can't go outside, this is the best view I could get you. Once again, trust me that it's worse than it looks:

The rest of my outside time has come from watching the deck cameras. It really isn't the same

But don't worry, the stewards know what they're doing and we're all stocked with crackers

We did a tour of the engineering spaces which was neat. It was soooo hot and disorienting down in the belly of the ship, I'm glad I'm not a ship engineer. I took lots of pictures for Calvin, but I won't make you look at them unless you ask. They're all pretty blurry because the chief engineer gave be a lot of shit every time I stopped to take pictures of things that he thought were mundane and I got self conscious. I should have given shit right back but I've felt too crummy and didn't have enough fire in me. I'll just make you look at one:

We haven't been doing any dives because of the weather. We scoped out doing one yesterday in the leeward side of Palmerston Island, where the island blocked the waves. It was wayyy calmer there, but still not calm enough to dive. Everyone took this as an opportunity to run outside for 15 minutes and enjoy the fresh air and views of the island, before the captain yelled at us over the speakers. But it was good to remember that the world is still out there:

We had the final sundae sunday of the cruise! I knew ice cream would not make me feel good, but that's never stopped me before. I'm gonna feel bad either way, might as well feel bad with ice cream:

We followed that up with movie night, which I promptly pulled a grandpa and "rested my eyes" for:

We also had the last drills run of the trip, and I was a little curious about this since we can't go outside. But it gave us an opportunity to learn our alternate muster locations. Mine is in the mess, with no doors outside so I don't quite see how we abandon ship from here, but I don't make the rules:

By this close to the end of the cruise, and with the weather, people are starting to claw at the walls a bit. I admit that I too have been real crabby today. But I had a really nice dinner with some of my favorite shipmates, and I got roped into one final morale event. I can never say no to Bob Ross:

I'll let you all guess which one is mine:

Well, that's all for now I think. They keep planning dives in the hopes that the weather will be accommodating, but I'm not very optimistic. I will keep you posted.
