Day 9 - Underway

Today's the day, the tank is clean, and WE ARE GETTING OUT OF HERE.

We (I say we, but I mean the deck hands) pulled up the gangway and today we hit the high seas. Well, we hit the high seas as long as we stay within 25 nautical miles of land because we have a broken gyrocompass. It's used for navigation, and not having one is technically a no sail item, but we make it work as we always do. Again I say we, but I really mean that the electronics technician has used the gyrocompass from another instrument to replace the broken one. It's a little goofy but we're back in business.

The harbor pilot came on his little boat and navigated us out of the port, even though it was tiny. But I liked his boat, it's cuter than ours.

We did get the ROV in the water, but it was just a test where they dunked it in the water to test how things worked, so it wasn't a real dive. We'll try the first real dive tomorrow.

Before leaving port everyone was saying how terrible the sea state was going to be, so I gobbled so much meclizine in advance. The seas ended up being perfectly fine, but I was so full of medication that I could barely stay awake for the sunset and went to bed at 8pm. But I wasn't seasick so it's a good day. You can sit here for a bit and enjoy the view with me if you'd like.
